On the sidelines of the second edition of the Google for Nigeria event which was held in Lagos, Google announced that it will deploy 200 Wi-Fi terminals in 2019 across fives Nigerian cities: Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kaduna, Enugu, Ibadan. The equipment will be installed in markets, bus stops and bus stations, shopping centers, universities and more. More than 10 million people will be covered by high-quality Internet services, said Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor, Google Nigeria country director.

After announcing the telecom infrastructures, Google explained that it wants to improve people's access to web services. Internet in Nigeria has the potential to fully transform the country, thus, it would be of a great investment as Anjali Joshi, Google's vice president of product management, said.

“Across the globe, countries that have invested in digital and innovation-based cultures not only enjoy extraordinary wealth (and job creation) but have also transformed the way people live, work and do business,” he added.

In addition to improving people's access to Internet services of better quality, Google's investment in Nigeria also aims to increase its presence in the country, which has great business opportunities.

According to Anjali Joshi, Nigeria's large population places it among the nations through which the company expects to reach its next billion users with a fast, secure and easy-to-use Wi-Fi experience.
