Telecom Egypt and Banque Misr prepare to launch new mobile wallet service
Telecom Egypt and Banque Misr signed an agreement in preparation of the launch of WE mobile wallet. The service is designed to enable customers to safely and securely send, receive and store money using a smartphone application. The mobile wallet will allow customers to deposit and withdraw cash from WE’s wide footprint of retail stores and partners in addition to adding and linking their Banque Misr debit/ credit cards to the wallet to carry out transactions without prior-approval or assistance from the bank. The wallet subscribers will also enjoy a wide-range of electronic payment facilities including cross-net peer-to-peer transfers, person-to-merchant transactions and payments for a variety of services. Customers will be able to pay for all the WE portfolio of services in addition to utilities, insurance, education, tickets and tourism. The WE Wallet is expected to expand further with more features to be introduced soon including availing the wallet on feature phones and enabling the customers to receive international remittances.

Telecom Egypt Egypt’s first integrated telecom operator, and Juniper Networks, a leader in secure, AI-driven networks, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Cairo further cementing Juniper’s position as a strategic technology provider for Telecom Egypt. This MoU will highlight the companies’ intent to scope the Egyptian business landscape for shared opportunities to provide IP-based, high-performance networking solutions to enterprises. Telecom Egypt will also have the option to become an authorized resale partner of Juniper’s technology solutions in Egypt.
African country plans to sell minority stake in sole operator and issue licenses
Ethiopia said it would grant two telecom licenses to private firms and sell a minority stake in Ethio Telecom, the sole operator, as the government opens sectors long closed to outsiders.

South Sudan to join “One Africa” network thanks to Liquid Telecom
Leading pan-African telecoms group Liquid Telecom will implement and operate South Sudan’s first fiber broadband network, connecting the country to the “One Africa” broadband network, which is approaching 70,000km across 13 African countries and to the rest of the world. This breakthrough foreign direct investment by Liquid Telecom has been recognized by His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of South Sudan. Moroccan government to sell stake in Maroc Telecom
The Moroccan government has initiated a privatization process by announcing that it will sell its 8% stake in Maroc Telecom and relinquishing its right to vote. The government announced that it will 6% of that stake this month as a block order to local institutional investors such as retirement funds, insurance companies and banks. The remaining 2% stake will be sold on the Casablanca stock exchange, where the company is already listed, said the Ministry of Finance.
