Airtel Kenya has announced the launch of the embedded SIM (e-SIM), which cannot be physically removed from the phone and will enable customers to access the same functionality as someone using a physical sim.

The e-SIM offers several benefits over the traditional sim cards, as it is quick and simple to set up online, it is planet friendly, and it provides an easy extra line as you can use two numbers without needing two phones/handsets.

The e-SIM service is now available on the Airtel network, and customers who wish to switch their current physical sim cards to e-SIM will need to ensure they have a compatible device. Airtel’s Managing Director Ashish Malhotra said, “Customer expectations are changing, and we are confident that our customers will quickly move to our e-SIM for what it delivers."

Airtel becomes the second telco in the country to launch the e-SIM after its rival, Safaricom.
