Telecom Namibia has signed an agreement with Huawei to deliver a fixed-mobile convergence core network (FMC Core). The estimated investment for this upgrade is around 100 million Namibian dollars.

The project is part of Telecom Namibia's telecoms network modernization strategy announced in January 2021 to meet strong consumer demand and requirements. The company unveiled in July 2022 that it would invest N$2.3 billion in its fixed and mobile network infrastructure over five years. It had already invested $5 million in the installation of Google's Equiano fiber optic submarine cable, in partnership with Paratus.

These various initiatives are part of Telecom Namibia's broader turnaround strategy, as outlined in its 2027 integrated strategic business plan. They should enable the company to strengthen its financial health as well as its position in the national telecoms market, where it controlled just 10% of shares in December 2020, compared with 90% for its rival MTC, according to the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN).
