Libya is in discussion with British companies to develop its national telecom sector. Faisel Gergab, the chairman of the Libyan Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Company (LPTIC) and Lydie Sheehan, the country manager of British business relations in Libya and Tunisia, have met for this matter.
During the meeting, Faisel Gergab said that “LPTIC seeks to benefit from the expertise of British companies to develop the telecommunications sector and expand investment in the country in accordance with the company's strategic plan 2021-2023.”
The exchanges initiated by the LPTIC with the British come after similar discussions with the United States. On that occasion, Faisel Gergab met with Daniel Liss, the US embassy's Commercial Attache, Debbie Hirst, the director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Libya (AmCham Libya), and a group of U.S. telecommunications and technology companies interested in investing in Libya.
The benefits of the development of the national telecommunication sector are multiple, such as: restoring the telecommunication network; improving the access of the population to telecommunication services, especially broadband; repositioning the sector as a source of wealth and employment.
