Safaricom has been in the spotlight for two significant initiatives: a major healthcare project and a sustainability-linked loan. The company is leading a partnership with Apeiro and Konvergenz Network Solutions to roll out Kenya’s Integrated Healthcare Information Technology System (IHTS).
This $815 million investment over ten years, starting in February 2025, aims to digitize public health facilities, improve interoperability, and unify patient records nationwide, creating a more efficient and connected healthcare system.
In addition, Safaricom has secured $116.73 million through the second tranche of a sustainability-linked loan from local banks. The funds will be used to convert the company’s transmission sites to renewable energy, reducing its dependence on diesel and supporting greener operations.
