Telecom Namibia has announced plans to launch commercial 5G services by 2026, with the goal of delivering faster speeds, lower latency, and enhanced network capacity. This strategic initiative will initially focus on selected regions, representing a major step forward in boosting connectivity throughout the country.
In parallel with the 5G rollout, Telecom Namibia is making substantial investments in its network infrastructure for the 2023/2024 fiscal year. The company plans to deploy 77 new mobile base stations across the nation, aiming to enhance coverage, capacity, and speed for both urban and rural customers.
Pilot sites have already been activated in Cimbebasia, Kariba and Goreangab and are currently undergoing soak testing. To support these advancements, Telecom Namibia is also constructing backhaul fiber lines to ensure high-speed connectivity for the new base stations. This comprehensive upgrade underscores the company’s commitment to improving network performance and preparing for the future of telecommunications in Namibia.
