Ethio Telecom has officially launched its 100 rural mobile solutions, bringing telecom services to 903,000 previously unserved residents across 305 rural kebeles.

To mark the occasion, Ethio Telecom’s top management, local government officials, and community members are celebrating the launch in the newly connected areas.

This rural connectivity initiative will significantly reduce the distance that local communities previously had to travel—by up to 20 km on average—to access telecom services, helping to bridge the digital divide and promote long-term sustainable development and economic opportunities in these rural regions.

In its next phase, the company plans to further expand mobile services to rural areas still lacking basic telecommunication access. Given the challenges posed by difficult terrains, lack of infrastructure, scattered settlements, and power shortages, Ethio Telecom is calling for collaboration from all stakeholders, including regulators, policymakers, development partners, and technology providers, to ensure the success of these initiatives.
